The Romeo Community Schools Board approved multiple academic and policy actions at its June 23 meeting, including the district’s K‑5 math adoption and a move to district licensing for Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH).
The Curriculum Committee reported discussion of four curriculum resolutions and recommended adoption of Bridges for Mathematics at the elementary level; the board approved Academic Services Resolution #63a (K‑5 Bridges adoption) on a motion by Cichocki supported by Bowman, 7-0. The board also approved Resolutions #63b (K‑12 Cycle of Independence) and #63c (CKH programming) by unanimous vote. Ms. McFarlane told trustees that CKH’s larger costs occur in the first year and that the district plans to move to a district license while allowing individual schools to choose whether to adopt the program.
On policy matters, Resolution #60a (BOE Policy Update — Policy 6002, Safety and Security) was tabled to seek additional legal advice, as announced by President Rachel Eichhorst. The board adopted Policy 6003 (Firearms and Other Weapons), Policy 6004 (School Crisis, Response and Closure), and Policy 8002 (Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504) by unanimous votes.
Trustees also approved the Student & Parent Handbook for 2025–26 (Resolution #64). The meeting record shows all listed academic and policy motions passed on recorded 7‑0 votes when acted on; Policy 6002 was explicitly tabled and will return after legal review.
The board noted that full adoption of Bridges for Mathematics at the district level is planned for the 2026–27 school year.
