Romeo Community Schools board unanimously approves site, technology, curriculum and safety measures

The Romeo Community Schools Board of Education on Dec. 9 approved a slate of resolutions covering facilities, technology, curriculum and safety by unanimous 7-0 votes.
The board approved multiple facilities and technology contracts, including Resolution #85 for 2024 site improvements (parking-lot replacements), Technology Resolution #90 (AV Upgrades —6 Phase II) and Resolution #91 (RMS Auditorium Upgrades —6 Phase I). Mr. Antoine told the board the district did not go out to bid for the Phase II classroom-technology purchase because the previously used vendor offered the same pricing as Phase I.
The board also approved Resolution #86 to refresh district automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and Resolution #89 to place a summer tax levy for 2025 on the districts budget schedule. Business Services presented Resolution #89 as applying to the 2025 year, a clarification echoed in the meeting.
Curriculum changes won approval with Resolution #87, which added two new Romeo High School courses: a World Studies (Religion) elective and a Guitar elective. Ms. Eichhorst described the curriculum committee as supportive of moving both electives forward for next-year student selection.
On safety, the board adopted Superintendents Resolution #88, approving an updated Romeo Community Schools Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) after a biennial review that incorporated templates from Macomb County emergency management and was signed off by the Romeo Police Department as required. Dr. Robinson described the EOP update as a collective effort; the plan covers 13 specific EOP areas and meets the biennial-review requirement that one law enforcement agency be included.
The board completed personnel business including Employee Services Resolution #84 (personnel updates) and Board Resolution #92, the superintendents annual evaluation. Ms. Banach said the board used an approved evaluation tool and rated Superintendent Dr. Robinson as "effective," the highest rating available on that instrument.
All recorded motions included mover and supporter names in the minutes (examples: Young moved and Rice supported on the agenda approval; Antoine moved and Conner supported on technology items), and each resolution passed on a 7-0 voice vote. The minutes show seven members present for votes: Anita Banach; Katherine Rice; Young; Conner; Antoine; Demas; and Ms. Laseke.
The board adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
