Superintendent praises student achievements; new coach Lewis introduced to Escambia County schools

Coach Knight told the audience the players had been in the program for years and said, "These guys right here, I had them when they was in fourth grade ... the sky's the limit for them. They're very, very talented." Applause followed the recognition.
Members also noted a $500 donation to Escambia County High School's football program from Jason Piltchure that was delivered by the mayor's staff, and the superintendent recognized transportation staff and Coach Jones after the district received a certificate of appreciation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for work by the transportation department.
The board also welcomed Coach Lewis, who summarized a 10-year collegiate coaching career and said he was "blessed and humbled to be here." Introducing himself, he told the board: "I'm from Birmingham, Alabama. I have my beautiful family here. I ... received my bachelor's and my master's degree ... I was defensive line coach ... I was director of football operations ... I was fortunate to win the SWAC championship." Lewis said he looked forward to coaching at Escambia County High School and to working with students and families.
The meeting adjourned after the recognitions and introductions.
