The Pleasant Hill City Council unanimously approved Resolution #041426-06 on April 14 to adopt a career Fire Lieutenant job description that staff said will support leadership, safety and professional development in the fire department. Fire Chief Jamie Lee presented the job description and explained it establishes a supervisory position the department can use for recruitment or promotion when funding and staffing allow.
Chief Lee described the position as "a critical step in supporting long-term safety, operational efficiency, and professional development within our fire department." He told the council the financial request for the position was submitted as part of the FY27 budget package.
Councilmembers expressed support for the item while noting the funding and implementation may be affected by pending state legislative action on cities’ local authorities. Councilmember Mark Konrad said the position is appropriate for department growth but flagged reliance on legislative outcomes for final implementation.
The council approved the resolution by roll call vote, 5-0. Adoption of the job description does not by itself create a filled position; hiring or promotion steps will follow city personnel policies and budget availability.
