The Rothbury Village Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to adopt scheduling measures intended to bring the village into compliance with the new ESTA law. Council member Autum Drake moved the change, and Council member Denise Kurdziel seconded.
The motion directs village leaders to treat the village as a large employer for ESTA purposes, frontload employee hours, provide part-time employees a written good-faith estimate of anticipated hours and cap full-time employees at 72 hours, "as required by law," the motion states. The motion passed with five ayes and no nays; council members Jim Fekken and Dylan Zuniga were absent.
Attorney Brennan Gorman of Parmenter Law advised the council on the law’s requirements and options for compliance during the special meeting. The council’s action formalizes the village’s approach to scheduling and employee notices under the statute discussed at the meeting.
President Vern Talmadge opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. in Village Hall and noted the presence of Treasurer Deb Murphy and Police Chief Ethan Walker, among others. The council adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
The motion’s full text, as recorded in the meeting minutes, says the village will "move forward with frontloading ESTA hours for all employees treating the Village as a large employer, providing part time employees with a good faith estimate and written notification of anticipated hours, and full-time employees capped at 72 hours as required by law."
