Rothbury council reviews 2025–26 budget, agrees staff wage increases while councilors forgo raises

At its Feb. 18 meeting, the Rothbury Village Council reviewed proposed budgets for fiscal year 2025–26 and asked that suggested updates be made and emailed to council members before the March budget hearing.
Council members decided that the Village President and council members would forgo raises for the coming budget year. The council recorded pay increases for village staff: Treasurer salary to be $16,500 and Clerk salary to be $14,200. The minutes record an additional $1,500 for the Street Commissioner 'from both local street salary as well as major street salary.' The minutes do not record a formal motion text or vote for the wage decisions beyond the council’s recorded decision.
Treasurer Deb Murphy also reported that the Czarny Field certificate of deposit had matured and was renewed for an additional six months, and she noted the month's major expenditure was new police radios. Chief Ethan Walker reported that arrests were up for the month. DPW Director Scott Beishuizen reported crews have been busy plowing snow.
Councilors instructed staff to update the budget suggestions and circulate them for review ahead of the March budget hearing.
