Rothbury council approves $63,000 in budget amendments to fund police gear; authorizes small reimbursements and employee gifts

Rothbury, Mich. — The Rothbury Village Council on Dec. 17 approved a set of routine fiscal moves including a $63,000 transfer from unallocated funds to pay for police uniforms, radios, accessories and vests.
Clerk and Recreation Director Brandy Williams presented the proposed budget amendments, asking the council to move $3,000 to Police Uniforms (101-301-750.00) and $60,000 to Capital Outlay (101-301-970.00). Denise Kurdziel moved to approve the amendments and Autum Drake seconded. The motion carried, recorded as 7 ayes and 0 nays. The minutes state the unallocated fund balance would be $194,343.20 after the transfers.
Also during the meeting Treasurer Deb Murphy asked the council to approve a one-time reimbursement of $129.09 to Jeff Furman for the cost of a sign at Czarny Park that Furman had paid out of pocket. Mike Harris moved the payment and Jim Fekken seconded; the motion carried 7-0.
Council members also approved a schedule of 2025 meeting dates and authorized Clerk Williams to purchase local gift cards for village employees. Mike Harris moved to adopt the 2025 meeting schedule, seconded by Jim Fekken, and the motion passed 7-0. A separate motion to permit Williams to buy the annual employee gifts passed on a 7-0 vote after being moved by Mike Harris and seconded by Troy Voorhees.
The council recorded the monthly police report from Police Chief Ethan Walker and heard updates from Planning Commission Chair and Zoning Administrator Mike Harris about the community survey and a letter sent to the owner of Green Lawn Trailer Park concerning ongoing violations. No formal action was recorded on the police report or the zoning notice.
The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
