The facilities committee reported on bond planning at the April 28 meeting, with representatives from Barton Malow and MI School Research presenting community feedback gathered via focus groups and a survey.
Committee members said the work mapped community concerns and opportunities into four project groups: infrastructure, safety and security, learning environment, and arts and athletics. Discussion covered perception versus reality on enrollment, outreach strategies for bond messaging, and project group prioritization. Barton Malow reviewed Group 2 projects and the committee discussed Group 3 projects and pending change orders.
The board approved Facilities Resolution #41 (2021 bond change order approval) and Resolution #42 (2021 bond equipment purchase approval) by recorded motion. Dr. Robinson also noted construction-related change orders and a courtyard project that is out to bid and may return for approval at the May meeting. The committee emphasized refining bond messages based on the focus group and survey results so the public can better understand project need and scope.
Members referenced the district's 1-to-1 device refresh (budgeted on a four‑year cycle) and other capital priorities in committee discussion. The minutes indicate the bond planning work will continue and come back to the board with refined materials.
