The Romeo Community Schools safety committee reported on the district’s 2024–25 safety priorities, including emergency response team coordination, facility site visits that let first responders tour schools out of session, tabletop exercise outcomes and the reunification process.
The committee reported a cardiac response update and said the district nurse has taken leadership of that legal requirement so every school now has a designated cardiac response team. Committee members discussed staff training and suggested staff understand the use of NARCAN for potential drug overdoses. Board member Mrs. Rice specifically inquired about staff training on NARCAN.
Committee discussion also reviewed in‑school violence prevention and evaluated whether a third school resource officer (SRO) was needed at the 9GA. Mike Thomas and Officer Bauer told the committee that "the data does not support this at this time." Following the committee report, the board requested a report of incidents that have occurred and asked staff to identify what portion of the budget is devoted to security measures so that the community can see current spending priorities.
The discussion underscored that safety work remains active: the committee continues to refine emergency communications, unified command support and parent outreach efforts, including an event with Kenny Spears about negative effects of social media. The board recorded the committee’s recommendations and directed staff to bring requested reports back at a future meeting.
