Council appoints Edward Burton to Aliceville Water and Sewer Board

"My background is mechanical engineering," Burton said, adding he spent about 25 years as a plant manager at International Paper and worked on environmental compliance, audits and water systems across multiple states. He said his goal is to help the city navigate compliance and provide technical insight to the board.
Mayor Terrence Windham and council members said they recommended Burton to replace a long-serving board member who stepped down. Mayor Windham moved the appointment; Mr. Bradley made the motion and Mr. Woods seconded it. Council approved the appointment by voice vote. The council discussed whether the term is four or six years; the transcript contained inconsistent statements about term length.
The appointment will take effect at the next scheduled start date for board appointments, and Burton said he intends to provide technical support without seeking to "run the show."
