RCC Director Deb Murphy told the Rothbury Village Council on July 16 that the Community Center needs the members room re-keyed after a recent ant infestation that also prompted hiring an exterminator. She said the village police department currently lacks jurisdiction at the center because the facility is located in Grant Township.
"The Village Police Department lacks jurisdiction with the location being in Grant Township and outside of the Village limits," Murphy said, and she asked for council support to consult the village attorney about annexing the Community Center into the Village of Rothbury to address security and jurisdictional concerns.
Council members did not vote on annexation during the meeting; the minutes record Murphy's recommendation and that she sought the council's support to speak with the attorney. The record does not include a timeline for any annexation process, a formal motion, or a cost estimate for rekeying or other security upgrades.
Murphy's report was recorded alongside other administrative items, including the treasurer's finance updates and a presentation of a new zoning map. The minutes show the council agreed to consider the attorney consultation as the next step.
