Mancelona board approves resolution to advance middle-school solar project

The Mancelona Public Schools Board of Education on Oct. 8 adopted a resolution authorizing a solar service agreement and lease for the district's middle school with a 6 0to0 roll-call vote.
Superintendent Tina Frollo recommended the resolution, saying it would allow the middle-school solar project to move into the next phase of implementation. Business Manager Shelly Meeder told the board the agreement would incur no cost to the district and that MISEC would offset legal fees related to the transaction.
Board member Tom Ross asked about the expense to the district; Meeder responded that the district would not pay legal costs and that the arrangement as presented would not require district funding. Ross moved the measure; MacQuarrie seconded. The board voted unanimously to approve the resolution.
The resolution authorizes the district to proceed with the solar service agreement and lease; the transcript records walk-throughs of the property with a representative from Northstar and consultation involving Thrun and an individual identified as Ed. The motion carried and roll call was taken.
The board did not record additional financial obligations in the meeting transcript. The district did not place a timetable for construction or an implementation date on the record during the meeting.
