Mancelona board approves consent agenda, adopts Section 127 plan and insurance LOA

The Mancelona Board of Education met Dec. 10 in the middle school media center and approved its consent agenda and several administrative measures by unanimous votes.
President Thompson called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and the board approved the meeting agenda on a 6-0 vote (motion Musselman/Bisson). The Consent Agenda passed 6-0 (Musselman/Ross) and included approval of the Nov. 12 minutes, monthly finance reports and accounts payable for specified dates and amounts, acceptance of resignations from Brooke Orman (elementary assistant) and Lori Harvey (Early Childhood Director), and approval of Policies 39-1, EDGAR UGG 39-1, 1662 and 3362.
District administrators recommended relinquishing a $450 federal grant intended to support English Learner students, saying the paperwork and administrative time required outweighed the benefit. Business Manager Shelly Meeder was identified as part of that recommendation. The board approved the relinquishment on a 6-0 vote (Ross/MacQuarrie).
The board unanimously adopted a Section 127 Education Assistance Plan resolution (Bisson/Ross), which allows tax-free reimbursement of qualifying student loan payments for eligible employees. The board noted four employees would be reimbursed on the Dec. 12 payroll under the adopted plan.
The board also approved an updated MESSA (Michigan Education Special Services Association) Insurance Offerings Letter of Agreement for support personnel and bus drivers (MacQuarrie/Bisson); the board had approved a teacher LOA the previous month. The meeting adjourned at 4:21 p.m. on a 6-0 vote (Musselman/Derrer).
