Rothbury council discontinues trash service at Green Lawn Trailer Park, approves routine payments and donations

The Rothbury Village Council voted unanimously Nov. 19 to end village-provided trash collection for Green Lawn Trailer Park, effective Jan. 1, 2025. Council member Dylan Zuniga moved to discontinue the service; Autum Drake seconded and the motion passed 7–0.

Council discussion noted that state regulations assign responsibility for trash removal at the park to the park owner and that continuing village service had not produced a cost savings for residents. The minutes record that the village-provided service effectively gave the business owner a cost break rather than benefiting tenants; the council’s action places responsibility back with the property owner beginning in January.

The council also approved several routine and community-support motions by unanimous votes. Planning Commission Chair and council member Mike Harris presented a community survey; Council member Denise Kurdziel moved to approve the survey and to authorize Council member Dylan Zuniga to create a QR link for distribution, a motion seconded by Zuniga and approved 7–0. Mike Harris moved, and Autum Drake seconded, to hire White Lake Excavating to clean out the leaf pile site behind Village Hall; that motion passed 7–0.

On finance matters, Mike Harris moved—with support from Autum Drake—to pay the monthly bills; the council approved the payment 7–0. The council also approved a $1,500 donation to the Oceana County Goodfellows, moved by Mike Harris and seconded by Jim Fekken, to assist with cleaning the street corner at Winston Road and Michigan Avenue; that motion passed 7–0.

Treasurer Deb Murphy reported that Kuerth’s upgraded the recycle bins at Village Hall, doubling the village’s capacity for recyclables and helping maintain sufficient participation for curbside service. The meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
