Rothbury council approves Eagle Scout sign project, reviews ATV ordinance and zoning enforcement

Rothbury Village Council handled several routine items at its Aug. 13 special meeting, including approval of an Eagle Scout project, a review of the ATV ordinance and clarification of enforcement responsibilities for a local trailer park.
Jaden Furman of Boy Scout Troop 1151 presented an Eagle Scout project to replace the sign at Czarny Park and requested $433 for materials; the council approved the request with troop labor to complete the work and an expected completion date of October 2024 (motion by Mike Harris, seconded by Autum Drake).
Planning Commission Chair Mike Harris reported no Planning Commission meeting in August. Zoning Administrator Mike Harris read Michigan statutes regarding maintenance responsibility at Green Lawn Trailer Park, stating that the park operator/owner is responsible for maintenance, trash and animal issues, while the Village will address zoning violations only after receiving a written complaint (complaint forms available at Village Hall and on the Village website).
President Vern Talmadge reviewed the ATV ordinance adopted the previous year, noting the one-year review clause; both council and police reported no significant issues and the ordinance will remain as written. Police Chief Ethan Walker gave the monthly police report; the minutes do not include incident statistics.
Other routine items: the council approved paying monthly bills (7-0), announced chip-and-seal work would begin Friday or early next week, and heard a preliminary plan for a new garden club where volunteers could "adopt a corner." The council also voted to cancel the Aug. 20 regular meeting (motion by Autum Drake) and extended Deputy Clerk Carol Witzke's position for six months.
