At its Aug. 13 special meeting the Rothbury Village Council voted to begin annexation proceedings for the Rothbury Community Center and took personnel actions consistent with a recently elapsed ordinance waiting period.
President Vern Talmadge raised annexing the Rothbury Community Center — located in Grant Township and currently outside village police jurisdiction — so the village police could provide service there. Council moved (Jim Fekken, supported by Mike Harris) to have the Clerk work with the village attorney to begin the annexation process; the motion passed 7-0.
President Talmadge also advised that the statutory waiting period to adopt an ordinance amendment changing Clerk and Treasurer positions from elected to appointed had passed. Following that, the council appointed Brandy Williams as Village Clerk (motion by Autum Drake, seconded by Denise Kurdziel) and appointed Deb Murphy as Village Treasurer (motion by Mike Harris, seconded by Denise Kurdziel). Both appointments passed on recorded 7-0 votes. The council additionally approved a six-month extension for Deputy Clerk Carol Witzke (motion by Mike Harris, seconded by Jim Fekken).
The minutes do not include details of the annexation timetable or maps; the clerk was directed to coordinate with the attorney to pursue the annexation process.
Next procedural steps recorded in the minutes: the Clerk will handle the annexation paperwork with the attorney and the newly appointed clerk and treasurer will assume their duties according to village procedures.
