The Roseville Community Schools Board of Education approved a slate of routine items at its regular meeting Aug. 4, 2025, at the district administration building, voting unanimously on motions that covered minutes, personnel actions, tuition requests, a third-party building-use request and delegate certification.
The board, chaired by President Theresa Genest, first approved the July 21, 2025 minutes after a motion by Vice President Kevin Switanowski and support from Trustee Michelle Williams-Ward. The motion carried 6-0.
The board then accepted personnel recommendations that included two new hires — Durell Carter, a paraprofessional at Roseville High (start date 8/27/25), and Ashanae Ross, a special-education aide at Kaiser Elementary (start date 8/26/25) — and recorded the resignation of Christopher LaFeve as principal of Roseville Middle (effective 6/19/25). Trustee Michelle Williams-Ward moved to accept the recommendations; Vice President Switanowski supported the motion, which passed unanimously.
Trustees also approved a list of tuition student requests across district schools and grades after a motion by Trustee Gina Aiuto and support from Treasurer Matthew McCartney; the motion carried 6-0. The minutes list each requested student and the school and grade recommended for tuition placement.
The board approved a building-use request from the Traffic Safety Association of Michigan for use of a room at Roseville High School to hold driver-education classes. Secretary Joseph D. DeFelice moved to approve the request; Trustee Gina Aiuto supported the motion, which passed unanimously.
The board certified Trustee Michelle Williams-Ward as the delegate and Vice President Kevin Switanowski as the alternate to the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) 2025 Delegate Assembly following a motion by Secretary DeFelice supported by Trustee Aiuto; the vote was 6-0.
During the meeting, Director of Building & Grounds Joseph Smith gave a facilities update, saying a repair to the athletic field is underway and that about $25,000 was paid out of pocket for the work. Superintendent Mark Blaszkowski noted the district is organizing focus groups, and Assistant Superintendent Peter Hedemark briefly referenced a 3% healthcare letter. The board opened two public-hearing periods for agenda and additional items; "No one from the public appeared to be heard at this time," the minutes state.
With no further business, Secretary DeFelice moved to adjourn the meeting; Vice President Switanowski supported the motion and it carried 6-0. The board listed future regular and special meeting dates through October 2025, including a special audit meeting scheduled for Oct. 27.
