The Yarmouth Golf Enterprise Committee on April 13 recorded a modest revenue decline for its courses and raised questions about growing transfers from golf retained earnings to the Town’s general fund.
The committee asked the town finance committee to provide a summary explaining why the transfer amount increased roughly 30% year‑to‑year and what the change represents for golf operations and town finances.
Committee minutes state that revenues are down slightly because of winter weather while expenses have increased due to higher fuel and fertilizer costs and a larger number of seasonal employees. The minutes record that transfers appropriated from Yarmouth Golf retained earnings to the Town’s General Fund rose from $300,000 to $400,000 in fiscal year 2025–26 and were projected to increase to $500,000 in FY 2027. Total golf membership was reported as 772.
Committee members recorded no public comments during the meeting. The minutes show the committee voted to approve the minutes of the Nov. 10 meeting, with the motion passing six in favor and one abstention (Secretary Jerry Niedermeier). No mover or seconder is recorded in the minutes.
The committee’s minutes also note a related capital funding request: Town Meeting will seek authorization to use $250,000 from retained earnings to expand Bass River parking for 2026–27. The finance committee summary requested by the golf committee is intended to clarify how those retained‑earnings transfers and the planned parking authorization fit together.
The committee set its next meeting for May 11, 2026, at 3 PM in the Bayberry Maintenance Building.
