Yarmouth Historical Commission finalizes logistics for June 20 Revolutionary War monument ceremony

The Yarmouth Historical Commission on April 9 reviewed final logistics for a Revolutionary War monument ceremony planned for June 20 in South Yarmouth.
Vice Chair Bob Kelley said a planning group walked the park to map the event, including where buses will turn (left from Union Street, then right, stopping at the gap in the playground fence before looping back down Union Street), scout placement, the Liberty Pole, fife-and-drum corps, militia, the Eagle Scout, and pop-up tents. Kelley said the middle of the park will be left open and demonstrators are expected to arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. He reported the monument foundation is scheduled to be poured the week of April 20, weather permitting.
Chair Julie Mockabee said both D-Y band directors will be out of town on the event weekend and said she was directed to contact the chorus director to secure a singer for the national anthem. Mockabee also said signage for the event is in progress. Kelley expressed concern the town may not have enough buses and noted there will be four police officers stationed on or near Route 6A on June 20 to assist with traffic and safety.
The commission’s discussion focused on logistics and public-safety planning; no policy vote or permit decision was made at the meeting. The commission’s staff was assigned to follow up on signage and coordination with public safety and transportation providers ahead of the event.
