The draft policy also clarifies staff travel procedures: central registration through the board secretary, submittal of receipts for reimbursement, meal eligibility rules and an overnight threshold for per-diem considerations. The draft references a 75-mile radius guideline for when overnight accommodations may be considered and notes an example overnight allowance referenced in discussion of $70.
Board members requested five-year historical AASB (Alabama School Boards Association) conference spending data to evaluate whether the $5,000 cap should remain fixed after review. The superintendent and finance staff said the historical pull will take time to compile and that any overages above the $5,000 allotment would require board approval.
The superintendent asked the board to approve the travel procedure and form; after discussion, a motion to adopt the policy was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The district will distribute the finalized form with an added signature block to capture board-member approvals and two signatures for president travel, as discussed on the floor.
