The Escambia County Schools Board of Education opened its meeting with recognition and public-school celebrations before moving to routine business.
During superintendent remarks, the district announced that Miss Hester was selected as the district elementary teacher of the year and that her application has been forwarded for state-level consideration. The superintendent presented Miss Hester with a gift package and thanked her for her work in the classroom.
The superintendent also announced Mr. Parker as the district secondary teacher of the year and said his application had been sent to the state for consideration. Board members and staff applauded both honorees.
County High School coordinator and sponsor Miss Marshall introduced the school's student ambassadors and described a year-long focus on 'pride' in academics and character. Ariana Young, introduced as the ambassadors' president, told the board: "My name is Ariana Young' the president the County High School invest I want to say thank you for letting us be here and attend your meeting and thank you for your support and hard work and we truly appreciate all that you do." The remark was followed by applause from those in attendance.
Representatives from Rachel Patterson Elementary also addressed the board. Sydney Garrett, a fifth-grade teacher, thanked the board for its support of students and teachers and invited board members to a Friday lunch event at Rachel Patterson.
The recognitions took place at the start of the meeting; the board then moved on to its financial report and a series of action items later on the agenda.
