Aliceville City Council discussed next steps for the planned combined police and fire station during its Feb. 10 meeting, saying the procurement remains open and staff expect to reconvene in early March to evaluate submissions.
Council said seven parties requested information about the project but, as of the meeting, none had submitted completed bids. The council debated the procurement closing date, with members mentioning Feb. 24 and Feb. 26 as possible deadlines. “This is especially important because of our police and fire station and there's some questions they have to answer,” the chair said, adding that the council will meet after bids close to review responses and move the procurement forward.
Council members emphasized the project's urgency for public safety and directed staff to coordinate with the city's procurement schedule and with police and fire leadership to address outstanding questions. No formal motion or vote on the procurement was recorded at the Feb. 10 session.
The council also noted another infrastructure matter remains out for bid: the Third Avenue Northwest Bridge, which the council said will close at the next meeting and requires no action at this session.
Next steps: staff will track returned bids, confirm the procurement closing date and bring bid openings and any recommended awards to a future council meeting for formal action.
