The Town of Canaan Inland Wetlands/Conservation Commission approved the minutes of its March 16, 2026 meeting unanimously after a motion by Ellery Sinclair and a second by Marlene Van Gulick.
Commission members reviewed an update on Cobble Road and the Hollenbeck River bridge: Marlene Van Gulick confirmed the bridge had been fully closed to traffic, the repaired portion of Cobble Road is holding up well, and additional stones had been deposited on the upgraded section.
Brant Burz raised a question about the commission’s stance on water diversion from streams; members agreed restrictions (for example on quantity, duration or timing) might apply and Chairman Mark Burdick said he would contact DEEP for clarification. Susan Kelsey agreed to research newly enacted mandatory training requirements for inland wetlands commission members and report back at the next meeting.
The commission noted a letter from Aquarion Water Company thanking the commission for its role in water protection and announcing a new online resource for commissions. Ellery Sinclair moved to adjourn at 8:07 p.m.; the motion was seconded by Marlene Van Gulick and approved unanimously.
