Canaan selectmen approve $2,000 contract to pursue TRIP funding for Cobble Road culvert

The Town of Canaan Board of Selectmen voted unanimously April 20 to hire Cardinal Engineering Associates to prepare a Connecticut Department of Transportation Transportation Rural Improvement Program (TRIP) funding application for the Cobble Road Culvert Replacement Project for a fee of $2,000.
First Selectman Dave Barger called the special meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. and the board reviewed Cardinal Engineering Associates' proposal, which states the firm will prepare the application form and associated supporting documentation required for the TRIP application.
Selectman Chris Kinsella moved to accept the proposal, to authorize First Selectman Dave Barger to sign and forward the proposal to Cardinal Engineering Associates, and to fund the $2,000 fee from the DPW budget account 3001 (culvert/bridge work). Selectman Judy Jacobs seconded the motion; the vote was unanimous.
The action directs town leadership to proceed with the TRIP application process but does not itself guarantee TRIP funding. The proposal covers application preparation only; any award, matching requirements, or construction contracts would require separate approvals if the town’s application is successful.
After the vote the board approved a motion by Selectman Judy Jacobs, seconded by Selectman Chris Kinsella, to adjourn at 12:40 p.m. Minutes were submitted by David R. Barger.
