Montgomery committee adopts 2026 municipal budget; several ordinances and grants approved

The township reported the core municipal budget rose 3.49% excluding grants, translating to an average increase of $98.74 a year (about $8.23 per month) for the average assessed home. Officials said the increase generates more than $1,100,000 needed for essential services, public safety, infrastructure and operations.
During the hearing, residents pressed for detail on salary line items and whether elected officials would take pay increases. Officials said the mayor is not taking an increase and that the mayor and committee salary line item in the budget remained unchanged from last year. Finance staff and the mayor reiterated that the municipal portion is only one component of the property tax bill and that school and county assessments also affect total tax changes.
In addition to the budget, the committee approved multiple ordinances and resolutions by roll-call vote. Staff highlighted that the township has secured significant grant funding in recent months to help offset tax impacts and fund projects.
