Eversource seeks siting exemptions for Falmouth substation; public hearing set for May 14

Town Manager Mike Renshaw told the Select Board the Energy Facilities Siting Board had received a filing from NStar Electric Company, doing business as Eversource, asking for individual and comprehensive zoning exemptions to replace the existing Falmouth tap switching station at 228 and 280 Sam Turner Road with a new transmission and distribution substation.
Renshaw said the notice includes a project description and a map and that the Siting Board plans an in‑person and remote public comment hearing on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 6 p.m. in the Lawrence School Auditorium (113 Lake View Avenue) with a Zoom participation option. Staff will post the Siting Board bulletin and a Zoom link to the town website, he said.
He asked the board to note that the Siting Board invited written comments and that written submissions would be most useful if submitted by Friday, May 29, 2026. Individuals or groups wishing to be parties or limited participants in the Siting Board proceeding can seek interviews as the board defines in the filing. The town will post application materials and the Zoom link on the municipal website.
