Falmouth Select Board elects Dr. Heather Goldstone chair; Colin W. Reed named vice chair

Dr. Heather M.H. Goldstone was elected chair of the Town of Falmouth Select Board at the board’s June 1 meeting, and Colin W. Reed was named vice chair and clerk.

Goldstone was nominated and accepted the post, saying she ran for office to tackle long-term finance, coastal resilience and housing issues and emphasizing a collaborative, facilitative leadership style. "We need to step up and level up how this board is working together as a team," Goldstone said when accepting the nomination.

Several board members described responsiveness to resident inquiries and clearer agenda planning as priorities. Douglas C. Brown, who had sought the chair role, said he would prioritize answering resident emails and advancing a communications policy; Brown said he had repeatedly sought a joint meeting with the finance committee during the past year.

The board unanimously supported Goldstone’s appointment and later approved Reed as vice chair and clerk; board members said the vice chair’s clerk role is mainly administrative (signature authority on certain documents) and does not require substantial additional time. The reorganizational votes were taken publicly during the meeting.

The new leadership said they plan to produce a tentative outline of larger topics and workshops for the coming year by mid-July to help address housing, wastewater infrastructure and tight finances.

The meeting was held at the Falmouth Senior Center.
