Board hears January financials, safety and school program updates

The chief school financial officer presented the district’s January financial report, saying, "These are the financials for January of 2026. We ended January with a 4.83 month reserve." The CSFO said statements had been reconciled and that revenues and expenses were in line with budget expectations. The board approved the financial report by voice vote.
During the superintendent’s and staff reports, Mr. Justice highlighted safety improvements including new radios being programmed, wind screening at a playground, window tinting for visibility controls, and school-dog training as part of updated emergency operations.
Miss Wright reminded the public that pre-K lottery registration ends the next day and that the lottery will be held Wednesday; she said a shade structure for the pre-K playground has been ordered. Ms. Mixon and other staff reported on Read Across America activities, the book fair, and upcoming ACAP testing dates; Mr. White and Mr. Cruz provided additional details on test schedules, dual enrollment (noting about 500 courses taken by high-school students), and spring athletics. Career-technical education director Miss Wendy Matts reported on a successful Trades Day, local competition winners, and student ServeSafe certifications.
What’s next: Staff will continue implementing safety upgrades and finalize budget amendments once the state provides final numbers; testing and program schedules proceed as announced.
