Residents urge caution on Skillman redevelopment, ask about reuse of old municipal site

During the public‑comment period a resident identified by location urged the committee to avoid blanket redevelopment of the state property near Skillman Park and asked specifically whether the old municipal site and the farm manager's house could be rehabilitated rather than redeveloped.

The resident said concentrating development along Burnt Hill Road "opposite of Sculman Park" could harm interior portions of parcels and asked whether public works might be relocated to a site along the railroad tracks to reduce impact on Burnt Hill Road. The committee and staff characterized the proposals as preliminary; Administrator Lori (staff) said the request to the township was at an early stage and that the Open Space Committee would provide additional input before any appraisal or decision.

Mayor Singh thanked the commenter for participation and said staff and elected officials would incorporate feedback. No formal action or commitment to a specific course was taken at the meeting; committee members said further deliberation with the Open Space Committee and planning staff is expected.

Separately, a representative of Voter Choice New Jersey, Oliver Tenney, asked the committee to consider public education about ranked‑choice voting and offered to arrange meetings with senior leaders and committee members to explain how adoption by referendum would work at the municipal and school‑board level.
