Iron Vault program provides clothing, hygiene and food to Mancelona students; volunteers ask for help

Michele Scott, representing the Iron Vault, told the board the high-school Vault opened in 2021 and the middle-school Vault opened in 2024 to meet students’ basic needs and support their futures.
"The Vault is funded by donations from alumni, community, and churches," Michele Scott said. She described volunteers who build relationships with students, provide clothing and hygiene products, and partner with Manna Food Project to supply food bags for students and families. Local hairstylist Teresa Haynes provides haircut gift certificates.
Scott thanked named volunteers for their time and singled out Shelly Meeder for financial record-keeping. Linda Johnson, who also spoke, said more volunteers are needed to sustain and expand the program. Donations can be dropped off during Vault hours or purchased from an Amazon wish list, Scott said.
Board members acknowledged the program during the administrators' reports and noted its role alongside other district supports.
The board did not take formal action on Iron Vault funding during the meeting; the presentation served as an informational update and volunteer recruitment appeal.
