The Mancelona Public Schools Board of Education approved a General Fund budget amendment on March 11 that the district’s business manager said improves the budget by $284,000 since last June and projects a $17,017 surplus.
Shelly Meeder, the district’s Business Manager, told the board the amendment reflects revenue adjustments of $1,076,000 and expenditure adjustments of $791,571. Meeder said the numbers reflect updated grant and bond fund accounting and that the district will present another amendment in June if further changes are required.
The amendment passed on a 5-0 vote (Derrer/Bisson). Board President Burt Thompson and other board members did not seek to change the totals during the meeting, and Meeder said the district currently shows revenues exceeding expenses by $17,017 after the adjustments.
Why it matters: the change narrows fiscal uncertainty for the remainder of the 2024–25 fiscal year and preserves capacity for spring and summer bond projects described later in the meeting. Meeder cautioned the board that projections may change and that staff will return with updated figures in June.
What the board approved in the meeting: in addition to the budget amendment, the board approved several purchases and bond bids that rely on district funds and bond resources. Meeder indicated the amendment incorporates revised grant reporting and other central office adjustments that produced the revenue and expenditure changes.
Next steps: district staff said they will monitor revenues and expenditures and bring any further recommended amendments to the board at the June meeting.
