The Mancelona Public Schools Board of Education convened Feb. 11 in the middle school media center and approved its meeting agenda and consent package by 6-0 votes.
President Thompson called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. The board voted 6-0 to approve the agenda on a motion by Kim Musselman, seconded by Mindy Bisson. The consent agenda — moved by Musselman and seconded by Ross — passed 6-0 and included approval of the Jan. 14, 2025 minutes, multiple accounts-payable listings across the General, Sinking and Bond funds, and acceptance of two recommended hires: Kallie Johnson (elementary teacher) and Alyssa Ailing (middle/elementary teacher).
The consent agenda recorded General Fund payments of $76,357.42 (1/14/25), $169,738.64 (1/28/25) and $50,308.62 (2/5/25). Bond Fund disbursements included items of $52,200.00 and $94,577.59 among others; these financial items were approved as part of the consent motion.
Superintendent Tina Frollo said central office staff are preparing a budget amendment for the March board meeting and noted the district's spring pupil count is approximately 780. She also reported that bids for bond-related projects — including bathroom updates, roof repairs and a possible new track around the football field — will be issued ahead of the March meeting. Tony Tipton is obtaining quotes for security cameras and installation.
The board moved into closed session at 5:23 p.m. on a Clark/MacQuarrie motion (6-0) to review superintendent-evaluation materials; the meeting returned to open session at 5:48 p.m. and adjourned at 5:50 p.m. on a Clark/Bisson motion (6-0).
