Select Board drafting zoning limits on data centers and open-air gun ranges; Planning Board to review

Planning staff told the North Berwick Planning Board on June 11 that the Select Board is preparing proposed zoning amendments to address two topics: restricting data centers in all town zones and limiting the addition of open-air gun ranges while preserving the ability of the current range to expand and allowing potential indoor ranges.
Planning Coordinator Matt LeConte said the Select Board has discussed the topics and is drafting language; he expected the proposals to be on the Select Board's agenda Tuesday and then brought to the Planning Board for review. Matt also noted a recent Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on June 1 where an applicant sought a vertical expansion of a nonconforming structure that predated current zoning.
Board members agreed to keep zoning-amendment discussion as a regular agenda item so the board can review proposed language as it is developed. No motions or votes were recorded on the substance of these proposed amendments at the June 11 meeting.
