Marcia Rasmussen presented consultant plans for a Parkinson Field parking‑lot project and told the Park and Recreation Commission the preliminary estimate for a full‑scope plan is $1.3 million, including 63 parking spaces (four accessible), stormwater management, lot lighting and bringing water to the site.
Rasmussen said a reduced‑scope option—removing electrical, water and limiting paving—would lower the estimate to about $856,000. She cautioned that wetlands on the property and constraints at the driveway will limit design options and said she plans to meet with Ti‑Sales about access to the site. Several town directors (Conservation, DPW, Planning and Facilities) have been involved in early discussions, Rasmussen said.
Commissioner Granger Atkenson moved to support the Parkinson Field parking‑lot project contingent on further design review after Rasmussen meets with other commissions; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Bobby Beagan, passed unanimously 4–0.
The Commission requested that historical context (the field’s original purchase in 1974) be included in the CPC presentation. Next steps include continued interdepartmental coordination, refinement of design to address wetlands and driveway constraints, and formal CPC submission.
