Lisa Budris, an epidemiologist at the Connecticut Department of Public Health, opened the meeting and led roll call and introductions as members identified their affiliations.
The committee approved minutes from its May meeting after an unnamed member moved to approve and another seconded. The group then approved minutes from its June 4 meeting by the same procedure.
The facilitator asked for a motion to move into an executive session βto discuss confidential matters related to maternal deaths in Connecticut requiring privacy to delivery on this issue,β and members moved and seconded the motion. Participants then transitioned to the closed executive session; the facilitator explained the need for privacy for this subject.
No public comments were taken during the public portion of the meeting. A brief period of technical confusion followed as some attendees and members clarified which link to use for the closed session. Before leaving, a committee member moved to adjourn, the motion was seconded, and the meeting concluded. Members indicated they will meet again in September.
The meeting included representation from health systems, mental health and child-welfare agencies, and advocacy groups; self-identified attendees included Martin Agbale Anu (CHW, Family Bridge Program), Justin Keough (Bridgeport Hospital Emergency), Connie High (Office of Early Childhood), Kim Coranda (Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services), Shayna Laflamme (nurse consultant, Department of Public Health), Kirsten Lawrence (Maternal Fetal Medicine, Yale New Haven Health), Ayanna Lyals (general OBGYN and co-chair), Laura Luccarelli (APRN, Middlesex Hospital), Chris Robles (DCF and NASW representative), Maggie Young (Chief Recovery Officer, Liberation Programs), Kathleen Chapman (Connecticut Psychological Association), and an intern from DPH, Alexa.
Because the committee entered executive session to discuss confidential maternal deaths, the public transcript records only procedural actions; the content of the closed discussion was not disclosed.
