Walworth County committee accepts SNAP quality-assurance grant to add 1.75 FTE

The Walworth County Human Resources Committee voted to authorize acceptance of a SNAP quality-assurance grant under Resolution O726 that will fund two economic support lead-worker positions totaling 1.75 full-time-equivalent positions.
Kate, presenting the resolution, said the request had previously been considered by the Health and Human Services Committee. "Today is the formal resolution to request those 2 positions, a total of 1.75 FTE," she said.
Deputy Director Alicia Van Dyke told members the annual cost of the two positions is estimated at just over $152,000, with 2026 pro-rated costs of about $70,000; the SNAP grant is expected to be roughly $172,000 and can pay wages, training and some overtime. Van Dyke said the county has already incurred approximately $25,000 in overtime this year handling pre-certification review under the new state expectations.
Supervisor Tyler Schneider and other members asked whether the staffing funded by the grant would be sufficient to meet the state's performance expectations. Van Dyke and staff described the state's current approach as requiring counties to review at least 25% of cases to manage an error-rate threshold (6%), and said accepting the grant helps the county meet that workload without shifting the full cost locally.
A motion to accept the SNAP quality-assurance funding was moved, seconded and approved. Vice Chair Bud Wojcick recused himself from the vote because his wife works in the department; the record shows the motion carried with the recusal noted.
