Cromwell Library Commission elects Newton chair, moves April meeting

The Cromwell Library Commission on March 9 elected Kathy Newton as chair and selected Margaret Colella as vice chair, and the body agreed to reschedule its regular April meeting to Monday, April 20.
The nominations were formalized by rollcall motions: Marie Roberto moved to elect Kathy Newton as chair, seconded by Margaret Colella; Kathy Newton moved to elect Margaret Colella as vice chair, seconded by Barbara Grotheer. Both motions were adopted with the meeting record noting "all in favor." The commission previously approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of Feb. 9 by unanimous voice votes.
Town Council Liaison Paula Luna reported several community items for commissioners to note. Luna said she attended Coffee with the Mayor on Feb. 13 and Chief Penn’s swearing-in on Feb. 24. She also summarized recent Budget Workshops and said the townwide Budget Referendum is scheduled for May 5 from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cromwell High School. Luna added that the Youth Advisory Family Resource Expo will be held March 10 in the Town Hall Gym and is a free event.
Library Director Kara Canney reported that the library’s proposed fiscal-year 2026–27 budget went to the Town Council at the Budget Workshop; final approval will depend on the town referendum. Canney also noted an operational change: the Flipcert patron app will be retired next month and replaced with a new application for library users.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Kathy Newton at 6:31 p.m. and adjourned at 7:06 p.m. The commission agreed that the next regular meeting will take place on Monday, April 20, 2026.
