Trussville — In a pair of ceremonial measures, the Trussville City Council on Oct. 28 approved Ordinance 2025-33 ADM naming the municipal courtroom the Honorable Carl Edward Chambley Jr. Court and Ordinance 2025-034 ADM renaming Mora Avenue as Buddy Cho Way to honor outgoing Mayor Buddy Cho.
Councilors praised Judge Carl Chambley Jr. for 41 years on the municipal bench and approved the ordinance by unanimous vote after suspending the rules for immediate consideration. Judge Chambley addressed the council after passage, thanking staff, his family and the community for the opportunity to serve. "I am so blessed to have been here for this city," he said, adding that he appreciated his court staff and the support that allowed him to serve for more than four decades.
The council also voted to rename Mora Avenue as Buddy Cho Way, citing the mayor’s role in projects including the downtown entertainment district, recreation facilities, an expanded library and public-safety improvements. Councilors spoke in tribute to the mayor’s years of service; the ordinance states it will be effective Dec. 1, 2025.
The measures passed as part of a longer meeting that also included routine votes on property, annexation and other matters; councilors invited family and staff for photos following the courtroom naming and offered parting remarks to the outgoing mayor and council members.
The courtroom naming ordinance (2025-33 ADM) will take effect Nov. 1, 2025; the street-renaming ordinance (2025-034 ADM) is effective Dec. 1, 2025. The council said city staff will publish details about signage, addressing updates and the official dedication schedule.
