Winston County board approves vehicle sales, personnel actions and career academy trip
Summary
The board approved public sale and a direct sale of district vehicles, granted catastrophic leave and accepted resignations and retirements, approved several hires and transfers effective Aug. 3, and authorized an overnight SkillsUSA trip to Atlanta June 1–5.
The Winston County Board of Education on May 14 approved a package of routine agenda items including vehicle disposals, personnel actions and an out-of-state career academy trip.
Board action items approved by motion and voice vote included placing a 2021 Chevrolet 2500 HD up for public sale with a minimum price of $44,000 and approving sale of another 2021 Chevrolet 2500 HD to Hueytown City Schools for $43,000.
Personnel actions included approval of catastrophic leave for bus driver William Cornelius (effective April 27, 2026); acceptance of the resignation of Jennifer Gray, teacher at Addison Elementary School (effective May 22, 2026); and approval of retirements effective June 1, 2026, for Laura Davis (counselor, William High School), Wayne Wilkes (teacher, Winston County High School), Tammy Burn (bus driver, Addison), and Peggy Manasco (special education bus driver).
The board also approved employment recommendations and transfers, most effective Aug. 3, 2026: Josie Riddle (special education teacher, Addison High School); Bailey Kelley Humphrey (teacher, Double Springs Middle School); Chloe Reynolds (teacher, Lynn Elementary School); transfers for Lang Tubb, Rita Lovelace, Jason Woods and James Garrison; and the appointment of Marissa Lawson as junior high softball coach at Meek High School.
The board approved an overnight out-of-state field trip for Winston Career Academy to attend the National SkillsUSA Cosmetology competition in Atlanta, Georgia, June 1–5, 2026.
All motions on these routine agenda items passed by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were read into the record. The board scheduled its next meeting for May 21 at 7:30 a.m.
