The Trussville City Council on Jan. 27 adopted a proclamation recognizing Professor Willie Snipes, band director at Miles College, for national honors and long service.
The proclamation noted that under Snipes' leadership the Miles College Purple Marching Machine earned consecutive ESPN "Band of the Year" honors in 2024 and 2025 and praised his 15 years of service, saying "we formally recognize and commend Professor Willie Snipes for his historic national achievements and leadership in music education." Council members and guests applauded and posed for photographs following the reading.
The council voted to accept the proclamation; the recognition does not create a policy or budgetary obligation and was presented to Professor Snipes and invited guests.
