The Community Redevelopment Agency approved two commercial property improvement matching grant applications intended to support facade, site and lighting improvements in redevelopment areas.
Staff presented the first application for Congress Street Apartments seeking a tier-2 grant (50% reimbursement) for exterior repairs and parking improvements. The contractor estimates totaled $345,430.35, producing a 50% request of $172,715.18; the application scored 25 out of 40 on the program grading scale. The board moved, seconded and approved the application.
The second application was for 239 Founders 2 LLC, property at 3024 Doctor MLK Boulevard, where a planned Hungry Howie's tenant is proposed. Staff limited assistance to eligible exterior/site, lighting and signage work; the total estimates cited were roughly $430,000, yielding a 50% request of $215,000 but the program maximum is $200,000. The application scored 30 out of 40 and the motion to approve funding at the program maximum ($200,000) was moved, seconded and approved by the board.
Commissioners and staff noted continued interest in redevelopment along the MLK corridor and said staff will return with a targeted program to address corridor-scale projects beyond the current facade grant vehicle.
