Marlene Myers, the airport's business manager, told the board at the February meeting that the Flying Frog run will return April 18 with a 5K and new 10K option and an inaugural Frog Fest music festival, with all race registration proceeds designated for Operation Patriot's Fob.
Myers said the event began as a small fun run in 2020 and has since grown: the event used runsignup.com beginning in 2021 (43 runners), saw 77 runners in 2022, and ranged between about 55—6 runners in subsequent years. For the 2026 race Myers reported $7,400 in sponsorships raised so far and named local sponsors that have committed support.
Myers outlined Frog Fest plans: nine bands have agreed to donate performances and three food trucks are signed up so far. She asked the board and community to help recruit additional vendors and participants; registration is available on runsignup.com. Board members and staff clarified logistics: the run portion requires a temporary closure of the runway only during the race window, FAA has been notified, race registration closes at 7 a.m., the run starts at 8 a.m., and Frog Fest is scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Operation Patriot's Fob's executive director Jimmy Banton, introduced by Myers, described the nonprofit's mission to combat veteran and first-responder suicides through outdoor recreation and peer-to-peer engagement and said the group's services are free to members. Banton said the organization has operated roughly five years and reported participation metrics and outreach numbers to the board.
Board members reacted positively and discussed possibilities for deeper collaboration, including providing space or an information presence at the airport. John (staff) and others said the airport team is open to exploring a more formal relationship.
The board did not take a formal vote on the event announcement; staff will continue planning and provide additional event details and logistics to the board ahead of the April date.
