Legacy Harbor asks Fort Myers to back marina expansion; owners target August reopening

Legacy Harbor Marina owners requested council support for a lease amendment that would incorporate proposed dock expansion into their submerged land lease and allow them to pursue state and federal permits.
Bruce Strayhorn, representing Legacy Harbor, and dockmaster Eric Ravenchlag told council the original 1998 marina was largely destroyed by Hurricane Ian and that the proposed rebuild and expansion would add 36 100‑foot slips and one 150‑foot slip to the basin. Ravenchlag said Legacy Harbor had purchased slip credits prior to the storm and planned to pursue permits with the Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. "Legacy Harbor strongly believes that this clientele of the expansion will be a real economic driver for the City Of Fort Myers," Ravenchlag said.
Owners said they are close to completing water, sewer and fire connections and are targeting an August 1 reopening contingent on inspections and final certificates of occupancy. Council asked staff to evaluate impacts on city submerged‑lands lease revenue and on other marina projects and to return with additional details as part of any lease amendment process.
