The Whittier Regional Vocational Technical School Committee approved a job description and posting for a full-time athletic trainer to replace a long-serving staffer who held a $33,000 stipend. Superintendent Lynch said the outgoing trainer, Mr. Crevetti, had served for more than 15 years and that the position needs to be posted at a salary level that reflects the work’s scope.
"We didn't get any applicants," the superintendent said of the initial stipend posting and described conversations at a professional conference that suggested increasing pay to be competitive. Committee members agreed the role carries heavy responsibility, including responding to injuries at games, managing concussion protocols and supporting nurses and coaches.
Several members noted the job is more than a part-time stipend position. One member urged that a fair minimum salary range of $70,000 to $80,000 is appropriate for the full set of duties; the superintendent confirmed a funding source has been identified to cover the higher salary range.
The committee voted to approve the job description and to move forward with recruitment; the outgoing trainer has agreed to provide transitional assistance until a replacement is hired.
