MARBLEHEAD, Mass. โ The Marblehead Board of Health on Aug. 13 approved two prefabricated buildings and an adjustment to an alternate bid to provide a rectangle slab intended for a future swap shed, and discussed several public-health initiatives and calendar items.
A motion to approve the two prefabricated buildings and the slab change was made, seconded and passed. The motion record in the minutes notes unanimous approval but does not list individual vote tallies or the mover and seconder by name.
In a presentation to the board, Dr. Massaro outlined a long-term strategic plan aimed at increasing public-health engagement in town and called for more community involvement in planning. "The Department of Health and the Board of Health should become provider/driver for the community that we are in," Dr. Massaro said, framing the plan as a shift toward more proactive, community-led public-health work.
Dr. Massaro also updated the board on the Mental Health Task Force, calling it a "perfect example" of community collaboration and asking residents to apply through available news outlets. He said the task force is exploring a survey with Boston University that would be separate from the triennial Salem survey; he said the board will review an article he submitted at the next meeting.
Health Director Andrew Petty reminded the board of the Finance Committee budget deadline on Sept. 6, 2024, and reported that all town schools have joined the municipal composting program. Petty announced a Sustainability Fair scheduled for Sept. 28, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the High School and said Tattoo and Tobacco control regulations will be on a future agenda. He also noted that final bathing-beach testing is set for Sept. 11, 2024, and that COVID tests are available at the Health Department "while supplies last."
Chairman Helaine R. Hazlett read a letter from the board thanking Bobbi Cody for her services and asked that the letter be placed on the record.
The board approved an $80 refund for a resident who had purchased and returned multiple full-price stickers; the motion was seconded and passed, with the minutes recording the outcome but not naming the motion mover or listing vote details.
The meeting included a public-comment period and adjourned at 9:34 p.m.
