Ypsilanti Community Schools highlights multilingual program and presents 2026–27 course catalog

The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board of Education recognized student achievements and reviewed required academic reporting before adopting the district’s 2026–27 course catalog at its June 1 regular meeting.
Principal Celeste Green and students from Ypsilanti Puentes Multilingual School presented a 'Points of Pride' segment that highlighted accomplishments at the multilingual school. The board also recognized recipients of the Michigan Seal of Biliteracy for the 2025–26 school year; Principal Green and MaryAnne Jaeger presented the recognition materials and explained the Seal as an award affixed to a student’s high school diploma verifying bilingual proficiency.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Carlos Lopez provided the statutorily required update on academic progress and the district’s 104h goal‑setting requirements, and then outlined new and continuing course offerings in the 2026–27 K–12 Course Catalog. Trustees adopted the catalog later in the meeting by unanimous vote; the catalog includes a comprehensive listing of courses but notes that not every listed course will necessarily be offered every semester.
Board members used the discussion portions of the meeting to report on subcommittee work (policy subcommittee scheduling, Head Start and GSRP waiting lists) and community outreach events, and they thanked staff and families for the school year. The meeting concluded with closing remarks from trustees and district staff and adjournment at 9:07 PM.
