YCS hears midyear results for 180 program and Section 104h student growth report

Ypsilanti Community Schools trustees heard presentations on Feb. 23 highlighting midyear student outcomes and program impacts.

Principals Charles Davis Jr. (Ypsilanti Community Middle School) and Zachary Chutz (Holmes Elementary) presented data on the 180 Program's effect in their buildings, answering questions about implementation and student performance. Dr. Carlos Lopez presented the Section 104h report summarizing midyear student growth and achievements and responded to board questions about metrics used to measure progress.

Board members used the presentations to clarify how district supports intersect with classroom instruction and requested additional follow-up materials. The presentations were framed as responses to questions raised at the December meeting; staff said the materials posted in the meeting packet include slides and a written report. The board did not take formal action on program funding at the Feb. 23 meeting; the presentations were informational and intended to inform future decisions and oversight.

Separately, the board recognized Holmes Elementary's "Points of Pride," and staff congratulated Jennifer Gray on attaining National Board Certified Teacher status.

The State of the District and other instructional initiatives, including VILS device distribution, were discussed later in the meeting; Superintendent Dr. Zachery-Ross said VILS "will enable every scholar to have a computer to go home that will connect to the internet," and said additional device plans are in development. Trustees asked for follow-up on outcome measures and implementation timelines.
