The Ypsilanti Community Schools Board on May 11 voted to award a $397,296 contract to Carpentry Concepts to renovate the cosmetology salon and barbershop at Ypsilanti Community High School.
Board materials listed the renovation scope across construction divisions (rough carpentry, interior woodwork, thermal and moisture protection, openings, finishes, specialties and furnishings) and provided three bids: Heaney General Contracting ($344,000), Allied Contracting ($442,330 + $25,000), and Carpentry Concepts ($397,296). Trustee Jeanice Townsend moved the motion to award the contract to Carpentry Concepts; Trustee Talisha Sutton-Kennedy seconded. The motion carried with Aye votes from Dr. Celeste Hawkins, Maria Goodrich, Jeanice Townsend, Talisha Sutton-Kennedy and Dawn Espy.
The packet states the renovation will allow second-year cosmetology students to complete curriculum requirements and qualify to take the state certification test. The board did not record any amendments or alternate motions at the meeting.
Next steps: administration will execute the contract per procurement procedures and begin project planning as allowed by the procurement award.
