Wolverine council approves keeping basketball court in north Lumberman's Park, 4-3

The Village of Wolverine Village Council voted 4–3 on Aug. 14 to approve Brian O'Connor's proposal to perform maintenance on the existing basketball court in the north section of Lumberman's Park rather than moving the court to the south park.
Council members debated whether to honor the recreation plan the council approved Feb. 25, 2025, which the minutes say obligates $47,500 for phase two of the children's park upgrade and $10,000 for relocating the basketball court. Council member Dennis Holden raised the question of following that plan versus accepting O'Connor's proposal to keep the court in the north park with improvements.
Council members said any approval should include a buffer zone to the north of the court. The minutes also record that the council acknowledged two campground sites had been approved: one at the pavilion's northeast corner and another north of the pavilion.
Tal Babcock moved to approve O'Connor's proposal; Rick Johnston supported the motion. Roll call votes were recorded as follows: Johnston, yes; Wallin, yes; Beitel, no; DuVall, yes; Babcock, yes; D. Holden, no; and Ochs, no. The motion carried, 4–3.
A motion to adjourn was made by Bob Wallin, supported by Rick Johnston, and the meeting concluded at 8:20 p.m. Village President Ralph Ochs chaired the meeting; Clerk Dawn Benac was noted as absent.
