Wolverine council approves minutes, financial reports, pays bills and hires employee

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Village of Wolverine council approved routine governance items and took personnel action. The council unanimously adopted the July 14 meeting minutes and approved the July treasury and clerk financial reports. After a motion by Sue Beitel supported by Bob Wallin, the council approved payment of the presented bills on a roll-call vote recorded as unanimous.
President Ralph Ochs reported on ongoing park upgrades, street work and the South Straits Highway project, which he said is expected to be completed in late September. Tal Babcock told the council that the Sturgeon Valley Foundation is pledging $8,000 toward new playground equipment and said he will seek residents to serve on a Parks & Rec committee for approval at the Sept. 15 meeting.
On personnel, Ochs requested permission to hire temporary employee Gerald Dotson as a full-time employee at a rate of $15 per hour. Bob Wallin moved to hire Dotson, Sue Beitel seconded, and the council approved the hire by a unanimous verbal vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
